Hardly anyone seemed to notice he was there, even though the commentator announced it over the PA. It’s as if the significance of it didn’t register. Either that or people were scared of him…

When John Hopkins came over in 2011, I saw him doing a trackday at Oulton Park for some pre-season familiarisation, and it’s always seemed like sending star riders on trackdays is the done thing in that respect. Seeing Smrz at an actual race meeting was a bit of a shock as you’d think the risk would be considered too great.

I’m sure it won’t be the only time it happens because the only BSB circuits he’ll already be familiar with are Donington and Silverstone.

Brilliant, I reckon I’d have to look twice. Maybe try and learn a few things from him…….every time he lapped me.

Hopefully he’ll turn up at Cadwell this weekend with NG for a run out. I’ll let you know.

I like to take my time writing my reports. Hand written notes on the day then post them up a week later. But then I’m only a club racer and don’t have thousands of followers.
I’m a Nikon man but doesn’t really make much difference I don’t think. I shoot raw then convert afterwards with the same filters in aperture. I might take my Pentax 35mm to the track and chance my arm. I’m at Oulton in July, pop in and say hello if you are around. Let me know beforehand if you are coming and I’ll leave you a ticket at the gate.

Totally agree about the commercial imperative – and when the cult of Twitter demands race reports that appear less than an hour after the flag, the written word suffers too. Your approach to B&W differs from mine – I do everything in-camera, first principles only, using those red/yellow/green “filter” functions that the 7D has. It’s more hardcore and risky…

So true. I quite often convert some of mine to b+w if I think it adds to the image. Suppose in the commercial world it’s all about bright colours to enhance the advertising. Plus, in my opinion, creativity takes more time and time is money in commercial terms.

A fortnight ago I rode to Chester and didn’t have thermals on then – I reckon I got incipient hypothermia as it took 36 hours to get over it. Blankets and everything and shitloads of cups of T. Should have known better. Shouldn’t even have gone out.

I made a trip to Matlock on the Thursday on the Aprilia, bloody freezing. So I know what your fingers felt like. Schoolboy error, i went out with no thermal undercrackers and got cramp in the top of my legs! Cold weather and fast bikes is a bad combination!
